Antony & the Johnsons just released this video for their cover of Beyoncé’s “Crazy in Love” and it’s pretty gorgeous. Check it out!
I feel really dumb for not jumping on the Best Coast boat earlier, but I mean I did like “Sun Was High (So Was I)” I just never followed up on them. If you like scuzzy sounding sunny pop songs, you’ll love this stuff too.
She just released this new 7″ today on Post Present Medium so get it before it’s gone!
She was also featured in a new article in the LA Times about girl rockers, also featuring Pearl Harbor, Nite Jewel, etc. Read that here.

So like, I was pretty bummed by Contra, Vampire Weekend’s new album. I was expecting more of the same afro-pop tunes about privlege, but got a bunch of songs about who cares what blah blah blah.
Then I got a hold of the Ruby Suns‘ new album, their first for Sub Pop, Fight Softly. The cover art called to me, beckoning me to listen. I’d heard their album Sea Lion and heard mention of their afro-pop inspirations, but heard none that really drew me in.
Then I put on Fight Softly and all that changed. If you’re looking for afro-pop with English lyrics (sorry, The Very Best) give this a try. It’s sort of chillwave also. You could put it on after some Neon Indian or Washed Out and it would transition beautifully. This tune totally made my morning.
Speaking of chillwave, the Ruby Suns will be hitting the US this spring with Toro y Moi in tow. Check them out!

Fight Softly is out March 2 on Sub Pop.
It’s been awhile since we’ve heard anything new from Sweden’s Lo-Fi Fnk, but they’ve premiered a new video for a new song, “Marchin’ In,” and I’m diggin’ it a lot. Recommended if you like The Tough Alliance, Lykke Li, anything Swedish.
Hopefully this means even more material. It’s been at least four years since their last album, Boylife.
Ask anyone who really knows me, and they’ll tell you I’m a big American history nut. Especially 19th century American history. Ever since high school I’ve loved the events that went on during that time that formed the country as we know it. So when I heard that New Jersey punk band Titus Andronicus was making a sort-of concept album about the Civil War, I’ve had high hopes for it. Well I got my hands on it, and listened to it today and work and was pretty blown away. The energy, lyrics, instruments and everything really create a powerful work of art that explores how our country has been affected by the Civil War – how things have changed, and how they haven’t. It reminds me some of Two Gallants’ sprawling epic odes to America, but with a punkier edge.

February 9th, they’ll release the track “Four Score and Seven” on 7″, spreading across the two sides of vinyl. The Monitor is out March 9th on XL Recordings.

I knew something was up in the YACHT camp – they’ve been mentioning big things to come in 2010, and now they’ve created some sort of “super group” to go on tour this year. The name of the collaboration is YACHT & the Straight Gaze (I was going to ask about the Gay Gaze, until I got the pun). The new lineup includes Rob Kieswetter (aka Bobby Birdman), Jeff Brodsky (aka Jeffrey Jerusalem), and D. Reuben Snyder (aka Rob Walmart). That’s a lot of aliases! Anyway, check out the video above, and catch them on tour this winter all over the US (except here).

If you haven’t heeded my warnings, you should check out Bobby Birdman’s New Moods – I still can’t not listen to it almost once every day.
Just a couple of things I thought you should be aware of this wintery Tuesday. Hate snow.
LCD Soundsystem threw this little teaser “vlog” online yesterday, showing off the beautiful LA mansion where their new album was recorded. Isn’t James Murphy adorable? And he talks a little like John C. Reilly.
October’s Very Own leaked a new A-Trak remix of Drake’s “Money to Blow” which you oughta hear

Last of all, Beach House’s incredible Teen Dream hits your local record shelves, iTunes, or anywhere else you can think of buying music. I got my double LP from Sub Pop on Saturday, and it’s gorgeous.
Aeroplane were one of the biggest hits in 2009, and 2010 may prove to be an even bigger year for the Belgian duo. They’ve been working on their first full-length album, and monthly they put out a new mix of some of the best new music in electronic today. ‘SUP Magazine was able to get an interview them, where they talk about their upcoming record, their remixes, and the Italo-disco revival. Check it out here, and listen to their December mix over at SoundCloud.
EDIT: the guys put up their latest one today, so check it out here.
‘SUP also has an interview with Ernest Green aka Washed Out, which you should also read.
