I never really knew a whole lot about Mystery Jets. They covered Bloc Party, did a remix of Futureheads’ “Hounds of Love,” got remixed by Erol Alkan and Justice but I don’t think I ever really heard anything more of them. I’m starting to get interested because they’ve got great remixes of their songs. Are the originals as good?
I really love Grouper a whole bunch. Ever since my sister gave me her creepy CD Way Their Crept I’ve been a big fan of the atmospheric haunting of her voice and the way it makes you feel. And now she’s going on tour with Animal Collective on some dates. I’m not a huge AnCo fan but if you are going to any of these dates, make sure you get there early to see Grouper.

Hey! It’s Friday! So what it was a crappy week?
So besides getting my iPod stolen, the Andew Bird show was pretty good last night. I didn’t know what time it started so I got there around eight and missed some of Loney, Dear’s set. I really liked them live. They’re good on CD, but it really comes alive…live. They were polite and nice and it seemed like the audience liked them. I sure did. I just wish I’d seen the whole set and closer. I didn’t get any pictures of them.
And then came the whistlin’, pluckin’, samplin’, self-loopin’ barefoot troubadour Andrew Bird. I have never really listened to him, except a couple songs. He’s charming, nice, and very talented. I liked how he looped himself and did it so well. He’s obviously been doing it awhile. Made me think though: would people still like him as much if he didn’t whistle all the time? He does have some funny lyrics, though. I’ll give him that. All around a pretty good night.
You can see the rest of my meager pictures at Flickr.
I found another song that fits on to my on-going “abuse-as-a-demonstration-of-love” mix. This one’s actually not showing abuse as a form of love, but kind of like a real person’s reaction to abuse. “I thought you loved me” kind of thing.

It’s time to wax nostalgic for my lil 30GB iPod video. Last night while attending the Andrew Bird & Loney, Dear show, one of the bouncers stole it from my bag while checking it to get in. And of course none of them fessed up to it. Funny that I had it the whole time I was in Mexico and everywhere else, and it gets stolen in Utah. Whatever. At least it wasn’t my laptop. Or external hard drive.
(This is a personal post. I’ll post some pics I took last night later)
Guys remember Jesse Rose? Here’s another cut from his upcoming CD What Do You Do If You Don’t? featuring Hot Chip.

Guys how perfect is this song? Answer: Super perfect. I love it. When is Lo-Fi Fnk comin’ out with another record?
They say that “releasing ‘Want U’ is just thought of as a hello to all fans and doesn’t mean that we are gonna drop an album in a near future which some people have thought. This is not an ‘excuse’ for the song, it’s a special one for us and it’s not impossible it will end up on the album as well. Also, don’t think that ‘this is how the new album is gonna sound’.” And that they’re about half-way in. Good news right? Supa good
Tonight I’m goin’ to see Andrew Bird & Loney, Dear play in Salt Lake. I am not a huge listener of Andrew Bird, but am completely lovin’ Loney, Dear’s album Dear John. It’s the perfect mix of melancholy and upbeatness. The first couple songs are pretty poppy, and then things slow down. I can’t wait to see them live, and maybe be more swayed by Bird than I am on CD.
I’m really liking this Lionel Flairs guy’s CD Sweat Symphony. It’s quirky, danceable, and pretty fun to listen to.Plus this song has an awesome video. I love when his head turns into a cat.
