movieposterLast night my buddy and I watched a Danish movie called Efter Brylluppet (After the Wedding for all you non-Danes). It was a fantastic film that in 2006 was nominated for Best Foreign Film but lost to the equally-brilliant The Lives of Others. Anyway, the film follows a Danish man who runs an orphanage in India, but is offered four million dollars to help the orphanage if he returns to Denmark where long-kept secrets are revealed. The consequences affect his life for good. The movie is very emotional, and features great acting. It also features one of my favorite Sigur Rós tracks.

Might start a kind of film club feature ’round here. I really love watching movies of all kinds. If you’ve got one to recommend, tell me.

I’d say this was decent but wasn’t as taken by it as you were.

If you liked this there is a Danish film from 1998 called Festen you should see if you haven’t already. It’s about a celebration that brings together an extended family and over the course of the event certain truths and secrets are revealed.

The absurdity of the revelations are on par with this film, if not more shocking. It’s also the first official Dogme ’95 film, so it’s incredibly unique and jarring.

You should watch 4 months, 3 weeks, 2 days. One of the most brilliant and depicting movies ever.
