Xiu Xiu recently gained two new members and have been working on their follow-up album to last year’s Dear God I Hate Myself but now they’re releasing a single called “Daphny” dedicated to a close friend of theirs “who—following an arrest for shoplifting—was raped by an officer while in police custody.” Yikes. The B-side is a cover of Rihanna’s “Only Girl in the World.” The 7″ is up for preorder now at Polyvinyl.
The group also remixed a track by Parenthetical Girls, as part of a free remix EP (Parenthetical Girls singer Zac Pennington is part of Xiu Xiu’s new line-up). Grab that for the price of an e-mail here.

Really glad Justin Vernon took a stab at the saddest song in the world. His version isn’t as sad as the original but still a great song too. His new album is out tomorrow and you’d be a fool not to get it. It’s incredible!

LCD Soundsystem’s concert may have run its course after their final show at Madison Square Garden, but there’s still hope that James Murphy will keep releasing music.
For Record Store Day LCD covered a track off Franz Ferdinand’s album Tonight, thereby returning a favor the Scottish group paid LCD in covering “All My Friends.” Stream the track below and make sure to pick up a copy of the Franz Ferdinand 12″ which features other covers by Deborah Harry, Peaches, and more. Record Store Day is this Saturday!
Hear Hercules & Love Affair’s house-y stab at The xx’s “Shelter.” Available soon as the B-side to the “Painted Eyes” single on Moshi Moshi Records.
Yesterday ceo aka Eric Berglund of The Tough Alliance released a new video for his single “Illuminata.” He bowed out of flashing illuminati signs in favor of a tennis match against himself. Fair enough.
On the single he decided to tackle Beyonce’s “Halo” to great effect.
