Trials + Tribulations

Rudo y Cursi

I am very excited because this year, FINALLY, I will be going to Sundance. Well, a screening that’s part of Sundance. The movie’s not in competition but hey, I wanna see it. The movie stars Mexico’s biggest actor-exports Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna. You might have seen them both in Y tu mamá también and in other roles in other movies (Bernal: The Science of Sleep, Babel; Luna: Criminal, Milk). This is the first time since Y tu mamá they’ll be reunited onscreen. And it’s even filmed by Carlos Cuarón (the brother of Alfonso Cuaron, director of Y tu mamá).

It’s called Rudo y Cursi. In addition to looking hilarious, it has an awesome soundtrack. It comes in two discs (Rudo and Cursi, one for each brother) and seems to stem from the onscreen brothers’ different music tastes. The disc Rudo features well-known American acts like Black Lips and Devendra Banhart, while disc Cursi has a lot of Mexican music. Here’s a bit of both. And be sure to check out the trailer below!!

Juana Molina-Rudo y Cursi
Devendra Banhart-Lindo Cihuatlán
Black Lips-Árboles De La Barranca
No Somos Machos…Pero Somos Muchos-Amor del Cielo
Gael Garcia Bernal-Quiero Que Me Quieras
(“I Want You to Want Me,” in Spanish)
