Cruel Intentions

Guys, you should probably head over to LA Friendly, who have the new Simian Mobile Disco track featuring Gossip’s Beth Ditto “Cruel Intentions.” It’s totally a 70’s disco track, with Beth’s voice strutting all over synth stabs and ohhh man. It’s killer! I only wish it really went somewhere or Beth could use more of her voice if that makes sense.

3758548842_1580ed8148_oOkay I spoke too soon. Some little birdies dropped these off in my inbox this morning and I just had to post them, even though every other blog will too.

The Very Best – Warm Heart of Africa (Architecture in Helsinki Remix)

There was also a Metronomy remix of this, but the vocals turned me off. Hey Metronomy, just remix The Juan Maclean’s “One Day” already will ya? Anyway, AIH’s trumpets make this track feel warm and delectable.

Little Boots – Remedy (Rusko Remix)

I’m glad Little Boots is putting out another single. The video should be cool for this one. Rusko does a fine job on this remix. Love the bassy hits and synth splatters.

yacchtGuys today is the day that YACHT’s See Mystery Lights is out! You should go buy it. Because, I didn’t think it was possible, but the album is better than I Love You. Your Magic is Real. Maybe it’s the DFA-like energy the band has now, but still with their unique twist on electronic music. You won’t be disappointed by the album!!

Buy it on iTunes for $5.99

And keep an eye out for a video for the song “Psychic City (Voodoo City)” and a remix by Classixx.

3760897372_8ab2febe65_oSo I mentioned in my last post that I haven’t been feeling much new music or anything lately, and it’s only getting worse. This week I’m heading down to Austin to relax before heading back up to school next week. So this week for sure will be pretty sparse music-wise, and probably the beginning half of next week. I thought I’d leave you with a smattering of tunes I’ve been enjoying and hope you guys continue to enjoy the summer sun.

Grizzly Bear – Ready, Able (Live on David Letterman)
This is one of their best performances I’ve heard of this song, and has made me had the original on repeat.

John Jacob Niles – You Got to Cross That Lonesome Valley
Folk artist with a beautiful voice, who inspired Joan Baez and Peter, Paul and Mary apparently. Gorgeous voice.

Passion Pit – To Kingdom Come

Lindstrøm & Prins Thomas – Note I Love You +100

(if you’re wondering, the drawing is by David Creighton-Pester)

I’m sorry guys, but I can’t get into the Dead Weather. Allisson Mosshart, you’re great. I love you pretending to have sex with the guy from The Kills onstage. It’s great. Seriously. Jack, well, you need some serious Meg in your life. Other guys in the background well, you never had a chance. And Diplo, shame on you for calling this a remix of a song when there’s no words from the song in it. Unless the screams come from the song. Whatever. Washing my hands right now of you, Dead Weather.

♫ The Dead Weather – Treat Me Like Your Mother (Diplo Remix)

Really, it’s just hard to believe this didn’t happen before. It makes total sense. Sally Shapiro is known for dreamy, hazy vocals, and CFCF is pretty recognized for his dreamy, hazy instrumental tracks and remixes. A match made in disco heaven.

Sally Shapiro – Love in July (CFCF Remix)

Check out the adorable video, if you haven’t already.

Everybody Makes Mistakes

every body

So I made it back from Utah, found a house to live in a couple weeks, but am still mega tired from the nonstop drive. Twenty-three hours in a car is a long time, I don’t care who you are. Especially when there’s no cruise control.

Anyway, I had a good time in Utah. My friend, DJ Fader and I had another house/basement party (we made these cool self-congratulating flyers) and it was fun too. I made this mix also, so you can enjoy some of the tunes we played.

♫ Born Sweaty – Everybody Makes Mistakes

Duck Sauce – aNYway
Tiga – Beep Beep Beep (Soulwax Radio Edit)
Yelle – A Cause Des Garçons (Tepr Remix)
Calvin Harris – Ready for the Weekend (Fake Blood Remix)
Bloc Party – One More Chance (Alex Metric Remix)
The Juan Maclean – Happy House (Edit)
Cut Copy – Hearts on Fire (Holy Ghost! Remix)
Gossip – Heavy Cross (Fred Falke Remix)
