Seattle, Washington’s Damien Jurado has made a name for himself playing stripped down sad songs, from “Abilene” to “Now That I’m Your Shadow.” He’s going to release his sixth studio album Saint Bartlett on Secretly Canadian. His new tunes, including the following “Arkansas” see a 50’s sort of waltz, sounding like a southern bar set for closing. According to the press release, there’s a newfound sense of grandiosity in the record, which makes sense following 2008’s Caught in the Trees.

Damien and his brother, Drake, released another record last month of Secretly Canadian’s special off-shoot St. Ives, which specializes in limited edition records with handmade covers. You can get their record (LP or MP3) Hoquiam from SC’s mailorder.

I know everyone is excited for Saint Bartlett but seriously, everyone is treating the Hoquiam album as just a side project when the album stands alone as a big deal. A really great big deal worth listening to a thousand times over. “Party Fell” alone is worth the purchase.

well that really is the way Jurado made it sound himself. I am eager to check out the album regardless. He can do no wrong.
