I’ve been kicking around the new Caribou record Swim and I gotta say it’s one of my favorites this year, and that’s saying a lot for this year! Can’t believe it’s only April. Anyway, here’s the lead-off track from the album as reinterpreted by Junior Boys.
Swim is out now on Merge Records.
Love it or hate it, LCD Soundsystem’s “Drunk Girls” is the first single from This is Happening. It’ll be getting the remix treatment when the single is released (Juno lists a 7″ and 12″ due out May 17th, the same day as the album release). Labelmates and peers Holy Ghost! gave the track a glossy electro makeover, replacing the punky guitars with shimmering synths.
If you haven’t heard This is Happening you can stream the whole album on DFA’s website now. The video for the song is below, directed by Spike Jonze.
You’re probably already very aware that this last Saturday was annual Record Store Day, a virtual holiday for music enthusiasts. There were lots of exclusive by everyone’s favorite bands on all different formats. Vinyl was king, with several bands releasing exclusive 7″s and 12″ singles to whet your appetite. Brooklyn’s Yeasayer took the opportunity to release the 12″ single “O.N.E.” from this year’s album Odd Blood backed with an xxxchange remix of the track, an instrumental and, most interesting to me, a demo.
The demo version of O.N.E. isn’t just a crappy quality, 4-tracked version of the song, but an entirely different direction. The song follows a more direct line of sound from their debut All Hour Cymbals, before all the wonky electronic sounds were layered over the song. Give it a listen, and you’ll probably be as fond of it as you were of anything from AHC.
Out today, the second single from YACHT’s album See Mystery Lights is “The Afterlife.” Remixes come courtesy of DAT Politics, Andrew WK and The xx. Check out the xx remix below, and check out the video if you haven’t already.

You can buy the whole package on iTunes, or go over to Beatport and sample all the songs and buy them. If you’re in Europe they’re opening for LCD Soundsystem so definitely go see them!
