As the last post indicated, I’m pretty excited about the Decemberists‘ new album The King is Dead. I liked Hazards of Love but it wasn’t a very repeatable record. So their turn towards short Americana-tinged songs has me all worked up and ready for them.

Yesterday they released, in conjunction with the Record Store Day people, a new 7″ with two new songs. The A-side “January Hymn” is from the upcoming album, while on the b-side sits a cover of Grateful Dead’s “Row Jimmy.” The greatest thing is that the records are only $2! So run down to your local independent record store and grab one before they’re all gone.

The King is Dead is out January 18th. You can preoder it on their website, including a very fancy box set with lots of cool extras.
