It’s been awhile, hasn’t it?

I mean since we’ve heard anything new from Portland’s Reporter. 2010’s Time Incredible was a great debut, with sexy Italo-disco songs along the lines of Italians Do it Better’s output. They’re back with a new single, and ready to hit the western roads this next week so if they come to town, I’ve heard their live show is not to be missed.

Tamer Animals

Stillwater, Oklahoma’s Other Lives could easily come off as an amalgamation of successful indie rock groups of the 2000’s. Those horns sound like Beirut’s, the voice at times like Ed Droste of Grizzly Bear, the melancholy of The National, and on and on. While certain aspects of their album Tamer Animals do bring to mind other successful groups, the songs are unique in their own light. They’re compelling and sad most of the times, but I think their sound is immediate and the songs stick in your head early in your first listening.

♫ For 12

They’re going on tour with some big names this summer, from The Decemberists, The National, S. Carey, and the Rosebuds. Their album comes out May 17th on TBD Records, and on vinyl on White Iris. Be sure to see them on tour all summer.

Scissor Sisters X Boys Noize

Boys Noize put together this mixtape featuring remixes of several Scissor Sisters songs and bonus goodies from his own label, adding up to an hour of really fun, weekend-worthy music.

On a personal note: finals are almost over and then I’ll be moving back to Texas, so it will still be a couple of weeks before things get (hopefully!) back to normal posting speed. Thanks for being patient with my little blog.

I’m really excited about Planningtorock’s upcoming record W. Maybe it’s because it’s on DFA and I love everything on DFA. Maybe it’s her close relation to The Knife. Maybe it’s just because I like being creeped out. I’ll never know!
Anyway. DJ duo CREEP remixed PTR’s song “Doorway” and it’s creepy. Haha. Haaaa. Ha… sorry. Download it below. Put it on your iPod so you can listen to it while in line for Scream 4. Do what you wanna do!

W is out May 17th.

LCD Soundsystem’s concert may have run its course after their final show at Madison Square Garden, but there’s still hope that James Murphy will keep releasing music.

For Record Store Day LCD covered a track off Franz Ferdinand’s album Tonight, thereby returning a favor the Scottish group paid LCD in covering “All My Friends.” Stream the track below and make sure to pick up a copy of the Franz Ferdinand 12″ which features other covers by Deborah Harry, Peaches, and more. Record Store Day is this Saturday!

♫ Mindkilla

Whooaa you guys check this out. It’s the new single from Gang Gang Dance‘s upcoming album Eye Contact out May 10th on 4AD. The video is really trippy, but that song! It’s amazing.

Sorry updates have been few and far between. I’m gearing up for finals but then graduation! So there’s light at the end of the tunnel. Info on a music-related assignment forthcoming…
