This Record Store Day (April 16th), Brooklyn label Captured Tracks are re-issuing two hard-to-find singles by the seminal 80’s group The Wake. The band released several albums and singles on Factory Records (home of New Order, Joy Division, the Happy Mondays… you get the point) and also some on Sarah Records. The two re-issed singles bookend the group’s Factory years, with their In addition to these two singles, Captured Tracks asked two of their bands, Beach Fossils and Wild Nothing, to cover the Wake for a split 7″ also to be released on Record Store Day. It makes a whole lot of sense, because both groups seem indebted to the jangly guitars of The Wake.

The whole bundle will be available then, or individually. Here are the original two singles and you can listen to Beach Fossils’ cover of “Plastic Flowers” at Pitchfork.

Beach Fossils’ debut self-titled album was one of my top-ten favorite albums last year, and now February 22nd they’re releasing a new EP called What a Pleasure that continues the light and airy guitars and upbeat drums making this one another winner. It’s eight songs long so nearly another album, though two songs were released as a 7″ late last year so they may not be new to you (read my post on them here). One of the songs features Jack Tatum of labelmates Wild Nothing. Hear a new song below.

What a Pleasure is out February 22nd on Captured Tracks.
