julyflameWe’re dying to hear more about (and from) Laura Veirs’s seventh (!!!) record July Flame, to be released sometime in 2010. With artwork by Carson Ellis (of Decemberists’ fame) and these rave reviews, it will surely be a record to compete with next year.

“Laura’s like the queen bee and my ear is her hive; she nests and makes honey in the hairs of my cochlea.”
-Jim James of My Morning Jacket

“The best album of 2010.”
-Colin Meloy of the Decemberists

How could I not post on these guys? The Sweet Serenades have an awesome picture, they’re from Sweden, and their music is infectious. The Stockholm duo recently released their album Balcony Cigarettes on Leon Records. The first single “On My Way” is a rollicking foot-mover reminiscent of White Denim.

You can listen to the whole album on MySpace, which I definitely suggest you do if you want to start this week off right.

realestateNew Jersey’s Real Estate is a band turning heads lately with their hazy pop riding the coattails of summer. The guys all have a few different bands, but together they’re releasing their self-titled debut LP on Woodsist, November 17. Take a listen to one of the tracks off the album, which is really making my day.

kidsisterI assume you’ve all heard about Kid Sister, from her collab with Kanye “Pro Nails” or her own stuff like “Get Fresh” and “Family Reunion,” she’s makin’ a name for herself.

But what she didn’t have was an album. It’s been delayed since early this year, and renamed, but it’s finally coming. Ultraviolet is due November 17th, and the tracklist looks something like this:

♫ Right Hand Hi
2. Life On TV
3. Big n Bad
4. Step (feat. Estelle)
5. Let Me Bang 2009
6. Pro Nails (feat. Kanye West)
7. Daydreaming (feat. Cee-Lo)
8. Switch Board (feat. DJ Gant-Man)
9. 54321
10. Get Fresh
11. You Ain’t Really Down
12. Control

FINALLY!

Bobby Birdman has announced his new album New Moods, his first release in three years since the excellent Giraffes and Jackels. The new album is supposedly “his most focused” effort yet, which is great. If you haven’t heard Birdman, you’ll be impressed by his new beats and crooning that’s a little late for summer, but sure to make the rest of your fall sunny and melodious.

♫ Only for a While
Dust Design
What You Say
Weighty Wait
Victory At Sea
Bloody Mess
Silent But Violent
You’d Be Surprised
Setting Sun
Truth Be Told

Thee Fresh And Onlys

Last night here Woodsist band The Fresh and Lonelys played a little ole house party. If you know anything about either of these bands, you know they’re pretty loud. But the windows were soundproofed and the crowd was constantly being reminded to keep the door shut because a baby was sleeping next door.

Anyway, Thee Oh Sees were awesome. The Fresh and Onlys were even better. I only heard of these bands Sundays, but already really like their records. I took my crappy little camera to record some audio and decided to just tape their whole sets, so I’ve uploaded them so you can listen if you want. The bass is pretty dominating in the mix and the vocals are low, but you’re free to listen if you want to.
